The Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) has said that some vehicles used to transport bodies to different regions across the country are being exploited by drug traffickers to transport khat, cannabis and skunk.

Speaking to journalists, DCEA Commissioner General Aretas James Lyimo said intelligence reports had revealed that some vehicles transporting bodies from Dar es Salaam to northern regions, including Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Tanga, had been linked to the transportation of illegal drugs.

He said the vehicles are sometimes used to carry the drugs either on their way to funeral ceremonies or while returning from those areas.

The remarks were made as DCEA presented the results of operations conducted between July and September 2026 in 14 regions, including Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Morogoro, Tabora, Shinyanga, Mwanza, Mara, Dodoma, Mbeya, Lindi, Mtwara and Ruvuma.
