Tanzania’s natural gas sector is gaining fresh momentum following a new discovery at the Mnazi Bay field, reinforcing the country’s long-term strategy to expand domestic energy production and reduce reliance on imports.

The development, led by Maurel & Prom, highlights continued investment in the Mnazi Bay block—one of Tanzania’s most important gas-producing areas. The field already plays a central role in supplying gas for electricity generation and industrial use across the country. 

The new find is expected to support increased output and extend the lifespan of the field, aligning with ongoing drilling campaigns aimed at boosting production capacity. Current expansion plans include additional wells that could raise output significantly, helping meet growing energy demand. 

Mnazi Bay remains a strategic asset in Tanzania’s energy mix, contributing a substantial share of national gas production. Ongoing investments and exploration efforts signal confidence in the country’s reserves and its potential to become a stronger regional energy player.
