Tanzania and Brazil have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations following high-level political consultations held in Brasília, signaling a renewed push to expand cooperation and unlock new opportunities between the two countries.
The discussions brought together senior officials from both sides, with Tanzania represented by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Ngwaru Maghembe, and Brazil by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Carlos Duarte.
Both countries agreed to expand collaboration in education, agriculture, trade, investment, and tourism, while also promoting more frequent high-level exchanges to strengthen diplomatic ties.
Agriculture remains a central pillar of the partnership, with ongoing initiatives such as cotton development programmes supporting farmers and improving productivity, particularly in the Lake Victoria region.
In education, Brazil reaffirmed its commitment to continue offering scholarships to Tanzanian students, while both sides emphasized skills development and knowledge transfer as key drivers of long-term growth.
The two countries also agreed to increase trade, investment flows, and tourism exchanges, alongside fast-tracking cooperation agreements to ensure implementation of agreed projects.
Beyond bilateral matters, the talks provided a platform to discuss global issues, including international conflicts and the need for reforms in global governance systems such as the United Nations Security Council.
Overall, the engagement reflects a growing commitment by both Tanzania and Brazil to transform longstanding diplomatic relations into practical economic and development outcomes.
